How to create a contact

Creating Contacts correctly ensures clean data, proper ownership, and accurate reporting.

  1. Click Create contact in the top right corner.
    1. In HubSpot, navigate to CRMContacts → Contacts.
  2. Fill in the following fields
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Salutation
    • Contact Owner (assign if known)
    • Job Title
    • Lead Source → Select where the contact came from. Examples:
      • Exhibition / Trade Show
      • Self-prospecting (outreach by Sales)
      • Inbound (web form, webinar, gated content)
      • Partner referral
      • Purchased list (if applicable)

Required fields (must be filled in):

        • Email
        • Phone Number
        • Associate contact with company

        Strongly recommended fields:

        • First Name
        • Last Name
        • Salutation
        • Contact Owner (assign if known)
        • Job Title
        • Lead Source → Select where the contact came from. Examples:
          • Exhibition / Trade Show
          • Self-prospecting (outreach by Sales)
          • Inbound (web form, webinar, gated content)
          • Partner referral
          • Purchased list (if applicable)

Why this matters: Lead Source is key for tracking ROI on marketing and sales activities. Always choose the most accurate source — if unsure, ask your manager before saving.

  3. Set this contact as a marketing contact 🙅🏻‍♂️
    • 👉 Leave this field blank.
    • Why: Only contacts explicitly flagged by Marketing should be set as “marketing contacts.” Incorrect use can affect email limits and add unnecessary costs.
  4. Associate the contact with a company (required).
  5. Associate the contact with a deal (optional).
    • If this contact is already part of an opportunity, link them directly to the deal.
    • If not, you can leave this blank.
  6. Review the information and click Create contact
